We adore this item, and you will too if you’ve never tried it, fuelling an addiction to eat more and more, because one is never enough. OUR STORY

Circa 1600's

Arrival of Dutch East Indies ships to the Cape, bringing political exiles and slaves
from Indo - Malay - Philippine archipelago. Fortunately they brought some spices
with them!

OG Of Fusion

Cape Malay cooking, much like popular South African dishes are a style of cooking fusing
various traditions from Malaysian, Indonesian and Dutch.

Don't Tell Them

Cape Malay doughnuts are prepared from balls of dough with yeast and flavoured
with cinnamon, aniseed, ginger and mandarin peel, fried & allowed to cool, then
rolled in boiling syrup and dusted in coconut.

Street Stalls & Backdoors

So back-back in the day, vendors sold Cape Malay style doughnuts on street corners. In
recent decades they're commonly sold by "aunties" who made the best in ya hood.
Nowadays, you also find them in cafe's, bakeries and markets across South Africa.

Wow! Way too much of a mouthful!?
Went around Melbourne's food truck parks, food festivals and sporting events.

And so to honour such a beautiful unique product to share with the rest of Melbourne's foodie scene, we're paying homage to it's mother city and rebranding these tasty morsels to Cape Town Doughnuts!

We had a work place function for 40 people that required catering and we could not be happier with Gary and his team. Communication was so easy and laid back - Gary was responsive and followed everything up. We were able to customise a menu together in advance that met a range of dietary requirements. On the day, it could not have run more smoothly. Most importantly, the food is out of this world. Could not recommend Ostrich and the Egg more.

Is there a minimum you cater for?

Yes, it can depend on how many guests there are however we can also offer a minimum spend, as you know your guests better than anyone. We're flexible, so let's chat more to work it out.

Do you have alternative milks?

Yes, we can accomodate for various alternatives.

Do you require power or water?

Yes, most locations have onsite power that we can easily plug into, and even though we bring our own, access to water is helpful.

How long does it take to set up?

Our time depends on the size of your event, but generally 30 minutes depends on access and where it is located.

Do i have to book doughnuts & coffee or can i choose?

Doughnuts & coffee go hand in hand, however, we can discuss which one you'd like catered for as the primary product.

How long do you cater for?

Our bookings/service periods are based on what your event requires. These can be adjusted according to your tailored occasion, as our priority is to work with you, so your guests can have a memorable time.
